For my choice project i decided to do a painting. It was my favorite part of the semester, and an area I really wanted to improve in. I painted a starty night in the forrest. It turned out a lot better then I had hoped. I used shading, highlighting, and blending to create value and depth. I also had to use the splattering technique to create the stars. That was the hardest part becuase it was difficult to control. The easiest part was probably the ground and trees. Overall, it turned out pretty well.

This is my final block print. To do this, I had to use the art and design elements of space, becuase the carving of the block created the reversed print. I also used the element of contrast, to make certain colors stand out. I blended the colors on some of them, and I liked the effect this had on the overall print. I learned how to use bigger shapes and edges, instead of small detail. I liked how it all came together to create a picture. Next time however, I would focus mire and creating and exploring with different patterns, instead of an actual picture. I feel as if block printing works better for abstract designs.
This is my still life painting. The objects i painted are a giraffe statue, a turtle key chain, and a pot. I had to use the skills of blending to make the colors flow. I also used shading to make realisitic shadows. I had to use this concept of shading to create value in the pot as well. It all came together in the end to create a 3D look. It was easy to blend , but hard to create the correct colors.
This is my self portrait. I had to learn the proportions of where everything went. it was very interesting to see the difference it made when I knew where everything was. I had to use the art elements of shape and depth to create the outline. When adding color I used contrast and pattern. Overall the finished project looked realistic when I added the value of color and shading. It turned out better than I thought, but I would blend better of I had more time.
This is my landscape Painting. It was a painting of a field with a fence in front and mountains and tress in the back. It was actually very difficult. I made the mistake of starting with rhe front at first, and so I had to switch and try to start from the back instead. The concept of value played a huge role in this painting. I had to blend colors to make the different hues connect well, not just a bunch of bold lines and shapes. It was interesting to see how doing this made the features pop and look almost real. I also had to use the concepts of shadow, and how that played a role in the realistic look. Overall, I learned to paint what I see, not what I want to see.
These are my one point perspective hallway and exterior drawings. They were surprsingly challenging. It was difficult to make it look realistic. I had to use the concept of lines to create depth. I leaned that everything needed to meet the vanishing point. This new and simple concept really makes a difference in drawing. If the lines didn't meet this point then it created a weird awkward line that didn't fit the picture. I was surprised at how the finished project looked very realistic and accurate, yet it was simple lines meeting one point.
This is my motion project. It is a combination of straight lines to form a look of motion. I had to use the skill of motion to accomplish this. Through this concept,I learned that the elements of straight lines following a specific pattern cause the Illusion of movement. This is very interesting because you can use something as simple as a line, yet it comes out looking rounded and with different shapes.
This is my parallel line project. It is the use of parallel lines to create a accurate perspective on the paper. I had to use the skill of lines on this. It was very important that they matched up and were at the right angles. It has the element of space in a lot of it. This was an interesting concept because it allows the shapes to look very 3D and real. |
